(BUSINESS WIRE) – Christ Church Harbor Apartments (CCHA) is working with Bithenergy, Inc. and SunEdison to offset 95% of the nonprofit’s energy usage with power provided by a solar farm at Nixon’s Farm in Howard County. Using Maryland SRECs and Federal ITC, the partnership has an agreement to design and install a grid-interconnected, solar electric (PV) system that will provide energy to the senior center.
CCHA is non-profit senior housing building, owned by Christ Lutheran Church, which serves low-to-moderate income senior citizens. This project will provide the majority of CCHA’s electrical power and is expected to save over $1.8 million dollars over the next 20 years. Both the church and the apartments are participating in the renewable energy project.
CCHA Administrator, Page Croyder states, “This project reflects the commitment of Christ Lutheran Church to responsible environmental stewardship for present and future generations. We invite those driving past the solar array at Nixon’s Farm to enjoy the sound of silence and sight of no pollution as energy is produced!” She adds that the savings over the next 20 years will enable CCHA to provide more services to residents, and the Church to continue its support of other outreach projects, including the maintenance of a shelter for homeless women and children in the basement of the church.
